“Rise for Climate:” Rise with us on September 8!
In “Rise for Climate,” people all over the world will take to the streets on September 8 “to demand our local leaders commit to building a fossil free world that puts people and justice before profits.” Marches are already marked in more than 500 towns and cities. We’re one of over 40 organizations calling for the march in Portugal, that will simultaneously take place in Lisbon, Porto and Faro. Together, we will stop planned fossil fuel extraction and stand up for a just transition to renewable. Please read our call in the following…

Tamera Peace Research & Education Center calls for broad participation in the September 8 “Marcha Mundial do Clima”. The march will start in Lisbon, Porto and Faro at 5pm.
Climate change isn’t a possible future anymore; it’s here. The unprecedented heat waves, fires and floods, and the rapid loss of arctic ice are screaming wake-up calls from Earth to humanity. We face a historic choice: to radically change our ways or to run into disaster. Last week, a group of scientists told the UN that capitalism must end in order to stop climate change.
On September 8, we’ll rise for system change. We need to replace a petrol-dependent global system by a community-based, decentralized, regenerative culture of cooperation. As a first step in this direction, we insist that fossil fuels must stay in the ground, here in Portugal and around the world.
Fatalism is today’s zeitgeist, yet disaster isn’t a foregone conclusion. We can still turn the page on climate change, if we collaborate to lead the inevitable transition. Water is a key component for reversing climate change. By restoring ecosystems at large-scale through local rainwater retention, we can actually rebalance the climate, leaving droughts, floods, fires and desertification behind. By establishing decentralized solar, wind and wave energy systems, we can power ourselves exclusively with renewables, democratizing energy supply. And by rebuilding community, we can foster the social basis of cooperation and trust needed to usher in such humane transformation.
If united by true vision, we can be a beacon of hope for the world.
It’s not too late. For the seven generations coming after us, and for a future worth living.
