Community Service: Kitchen – Join us as a main cook

Work in our Campus or Solar Kitchen, while co-researching and studying with us, and get a lived experience of community while being one of our main cooks.

Overview

If you’re interested in staying in Tamera for a longer period of time wanting to experience living in community and have already some experience in cooking for a bigger number of people this program is for you.
You’ll be part of a continuous group in which you’ll study and practice key principles of community, experience trust-building processes like council and Forum and learn about our Healing Biotopes vision and research areas like love and sexuality, ecological regeneration and peacework.

Our cuisine is vegan and mostly regional and seasonal, as we want to move away from exploitation, centralized and industrialized food production, and towards a system of cooperation.

You must be able to commit for one full arc.

Who is the service for?

  • People who want to get to know Tamera
  • Community curious people
  • People interested in vegan cooking
  • People with experience in cooking for larger numbers of people

This is an emerging Healing Biotope where we work to reconnect and restore the wholeness of life. Courses are focused on topics, but all of our research exists in an interconnected web, so your learning will likely expand on other areas.

As a learner, you can join our morning offers, which can include things like Yoga and Qi Gong. You’ll also be able to join in whole community events, like our Sunday matinee, the Ring of Power and Political Cafes.

What you will do

  • Preparing seasonal, regional-based, vegan cuisine for large numbers 4-5 hours each day (5-6 days a week)
  • Regular group meetings (at least 3 times a week), consisting of presentations and Q&A sessions with different community members, guided tours, facilitated spaces practicing social tools such as Forum and Council to go deeper into your life questions
  • Learn about the principles of a Healing Biotope and how to create transparency and trust in a group
  • Morning check-in (3 times a week) with the full kitchen team to address communal and individual needs
  • Meetings with the other main cooks to plan the week, share and give feedback to each other

Team

  • Claudia Metschen will coordinate the kitchen and hold your morning check-ins.

The facilitation team holding the regular group meetings will consist of 3-5 experienced community members. We’ll let you know closer to the time who they are.

Criteria for participation

  • Readiness to participate in one full arc from beginning to end.
  • Willingness to explore and practice principles of community in a group setting (e.g. reliable participation, transparency & consent culture, inclusion, mutual support).
  • Readiness to bear witness to the challenges of our world.
  • Being open to learning and dialogue.
  • Sharing responsibility for the quality of our common spaces.

Testimonials

“A great opportunity to get a taste of the culture, work areas and community building processes of Tamera. Throughout the course of several weeks, with your peers and facilitators, you become part of and co-create a social vessel with whom you explore and practice the core healing principles of solidarity, trust, truth and transparency. As far as I know, everyone in my group experienced some positive transformation, enhanced conscious awareness of their inner world, or freeing oneself from fears or blockages from this experience.”
– Eugenia

“I’m so grateful for the conditions here that have allowed me to discover places in myself that I hadn’t known.”
– Amir

“I really enjoyed being here. By working in the kitchen I could also contribute some of my knowledge. But what I mainly enjoyed was the contact with the other participants. Working together for such a long time is bonding… With some it feels like we started lifelong friendships.”
– Hannah

“An open minded team with good guidance. Lots of nourishing information about a wonderful place. A place to experience, learn and be. Thank you!”
