Community Service: Solar Test Field & Garden

Join a team of workers for 12 days of annual maintenance in the solar testfield, learn about community-building and experience an autumn full of abundance in the garden.

Overview

Help us prepare the community garden for the winter season, close the Solar Kitchen for this season, and prepare the indoor space for the coming winter.

In the mornings, we’ll be doing practical work, including tasks such as:

  • Planting vegetables and preparing beds in our community garden
  • Harvesting vegetables and fruits
  • Some renovation work in Villa Verde, a community space for the winter
  • Painting
  • Some woodworking
  • Many other details that make a place functional, beautiful, and homely

By participating, you’ll also get to know the solar cooking possibilities and the inspirations behind the Solar Testfield in more detail.

In the afternoons, we’ll have group time, guided by one of our community’s most experienced group leaders and elders. You’ll experience Forum, an important social technology for creating trust and intimacy in a group, and learn about our philosophy, the Healing Biotopes Plan, and our work towards energy autonomy.

Together, we’ll explore questions such as:

  • How can people live together in truth and trust?
  • What is peace work?
  • How can regenerative communities make a difference in a world in crisis?

There may be opportunities to extend your stay after the course.

Who is the service for?

  • People who want to and are physically able to clean, repair, and maintain things or do garden work
  • People interested in community-building
  • People interested in regenerative autonomy and complicity-free living

What you’ll learn

  • The vision of the Solar Testfield, its evolution, and its current stage of manifestation.
  • Introduction to our bioenergetic gardening work.
  • How restoring inner autonomy and choice through community-building practices, particularly Forum, helps us create sustainable autonomous systems.
  • Why we work with love and sexuality as political issues.

This is an emerging Healing Biotope where we work to reconnect and restore the wholeness of life. Courses are focused on specific topics, but all of our research exists within an interconnected web, so your learning will likely expand into other areas.

As a learner, you can join our morning offerings, which may include activities like Yoga and Qi Gong. You’ll also be able to participate in whole community events, such as our Sunday matinee, the Ring of Power, and Political Cafes.

What you will do

  • Practical work in the garden and Solar Testfield
  • Introduction to Tamera’s foundational thoughts with a particular focus on the area of autonomy
  • Forum work
